There are significant differences between carbon steel sheets and galvanized sheets in many aspects. Here are their main differences:
Definition: Carbon steel plate is an alloy steel plate composed of carbon and iron, with a carbon content between 0.12% and 2.0%. According to the different carbon content, it can be divided into low carbon steel plate, medium carbon steel plate and high carbon steel plate.
Features: Carbon steel plate is an alloy of iron and carbon and does not contain other alloying elements (except carbon controlled within a certain range). Therefore, its hardness is greater than that of pure iron, but it does not have anti-corrosion properties.
Definition: Galvanized sheet is a metal material that is coated with a zinc layer on the surface of a carbon steel sheet. The galvanized layer can play an anti-corrosion role and extend the service life of the steel plate.
Features: Galvanized sheet adds a layer of zinc to the carbon steel sheet. This zinc layer can effectively prevent the steel sheet from being corroded. The thickness of the galvanized layer is usually above 20 μm. According to the thickness of the galvanized layer, it can be divided into ordinary galvanized sheets, reinforced galvanized sheets and super galvanized sheets.
Physical properties: Carbon steel plate has high strength and hardness, good wear resistance, and is easy to process, such as milling, turning, drilling, cutting, etc.
Chemical properties: Since it does not contain anti-corrosion elements, carbon steel plates are easily corroded in corrosive environments.
Physical properties: Galvanized sheets inherit the physical properties of carbon steel sheets, and at the same time have better corrosion resistance due to the zinc layer on their surfaces.
Chemical properties: The galvanized layer can prevent the steel plate from direct contact with corrosive media, thus greatly extending the service life of the steel plate.
Main applications: Carbon steel plates are widely used in construction and manufacturing due to their high strength, wear resistance and easy processability, such as steel structures, bridges, ships, automobile manufacturing, etc.
Main applications: Galvanized sheets are mainly used in situations where anti-corrosion properties are required, such as steel structures, roofs, wall panels, cement precast panels, etc. in the construction industry. In addition, galvanized sheets are also widely used in home appliances, vehicles and ships, container manufacturing and other fields.
Carbon steel plate: Since the production process of carbon steel plate is relatively simple and the cost of raw materials is low, its price is relatively low.
Galvanized sheet: Galvanized sheet adds a galvanizing process to the carbon steel sheet, so its production cost and price are relatively high.
There are significant differences between carbon steel sheets and galvanized sheets in terms of material composition, physical and chemical properties, application fields, and cost and price. When choosing for use, comprehensive consideration should be made based on specific needs and application scenarios. Where high strength, wear resistance and low anti-corrosion performance are required, carbon steel plates can be selected; while where anti-corrosion performance is required, galvanized plates should be selected.
